How to Install LED Lights in a Cargo Van
Since the outbreak of COVID-19, people have found themselves with more free time to take up a hobby or work on a project. That being said, now is the perfect time to complete those vehicle upgrades you have not had time for in the past. This includes installing LED lights in your cargo van to add more style and color.
Gather your supplies
A majority of LED lighting kits come with everything you need in terms of materials, including light strips, cords, and remotes. In our opinion, the best LED lights are ones that offer a color gradient or change color based on the music.
You will also need a variety of other tools and supplies to get the job done. This could include glue, electrical tape, zip ties, and/ or Velcro strips.
Pick your location
For the best results, you want to choose a location where the LED light strips are only visible when turned on. This means under the dash, under seats, or on the ceiling. But the best part about this process is that it is your car so get creative and put them anywhere you see fit.
Mount the LED light strips
Before you permanently mount your light strips to your vehicle, it is always a good idea to test the location temporarily using tape. This will allow you to see what the LED lights will look like and make any necessary adjustments before it is too late.
Once you have decided where to mount the strips, apply super glue and place the strip on the surface. Hold the strip in place until the glue is completely dry.
Another option is using Velcro strips to mount the strips. This will allow you to quickly and easily remove or replace the LED light strips.
Once you have successfully mounted the strips, use zip ties to fasten the exposed cords to the vehicle’s wires. This will keep the LED cords out of the way during travel to prevent accidents.
Plug-in power source
Most LED light kits come complete with a plug-in power supply, just like a phone charger or cigarette lighter. But many people opt for a long-term solution which involves hardwiring the lights to turn on and off with the ignition switch. This means every time you turn your car on, the lights would turn on, similar to how the car radio works.
