10 Biggest Pickup Truck Stories: Ram's Trick Tailgate Vanquishes Gladiator

We've already gone on record saying the 2019 Ram 1500 boasts one of the most luxurious cabins in all of the automotive market in its Limited trim, so why shouldn't the pickup truck, too, have one of the coolest and most versatile tailgates? That may seem like an overly specific accolade to the non-enthusiast, but competition is fierce among pickups — which as a result just keep getting nicer and nicer, and cooler and cooler. Not to be outdone by GMC and its MultiPro Tailgate, those clever folks at Ram countered with the Multifunction Tailgate for the 2019 Ram 1500.

The 60/40-split tailgate employs heavy-duty hinges to let you open one side or the other, or both at the same time outward, like barn doors, or to lock them down and open the whole thing at once in a downward direction like a conventional tailgate, all for increased ease of access. That access is further facilitated by a retractable step that extends from underneath the rear bumper.

Our live video demonstration of the Ram Multifunction Tailgate earlier this year at the 2019 Chicago Auto Show piqued PickupTrucks.com readers' interest in March; it was the single most popular post we published for the whole month. Another popular piece of content from the Chicago show was the video of our live walk-around of the 2020 GMC Sierra 2500 and 3500 during the heavy-duty trucks' world debut in the Windy City. The Sierra video was No. 2 among our 10 biggest news stories of last month.

The Ram 1500 makes another appearance on our high-ranking roster, at No. 3, in our rundown of five things we like, and an equal number of things we don't like, about the 2019 pickup. Meanwhile, rounding out the top five for March are a pair of enthusiasts' dream trucks, including a video of PickupTrucks.com's down 'n' dirty, mud-slingin' First Drive of the rabidly anticipated 2020 Jeep Gladiator, along with our story about the tuners at Hennessy Performance making the dream of an off-road Ford Ranger Raptor for America a reality in the VelociRaptor Ranger.

Shaking your damn head at the fact you missed all this? It's not too late to catch up. Here are the 10 news stories PickupTrucks.com readers couldn't get enough of in the past month:
